Hair Loss in Women - What Women Need to Know

Is this a new condition in women? No, hair loss is not a new phenomenon for either women or men. It is as old as the history of man. Among the Egyptians, Native Americans, the Indians and even African traditional societies, there are various regiments that were provided to restore hair in men and women.
Is bald head in men and women similar? Bald heads are more visible among men compared to women. This is because the pattern of thinning of hair is often different in women compared to men. Among the women, the thinning is more common to have loss of single stands of hair spread across the scalp. In women, the tendency is to lose hair in patches, most of them beginning from the front, centre or back of the hair.
What are the causes of thin hair in women? Just like in men, the hair loss among women is caused by genetic predisposition and enhanced by the environmental factors. This means that f you have a parent or sibling with bald head, then you are likely to get the bald head too. Some of the environmental factors that may enhance the loss is stress, poor diet and physical trauma.
The major cause in men is the high presence of androgens and testosterones. The androgens are precursors of most of the hormones that relate to reproductive health even among women. High level of androgens among women would therefore cause hair loss. The thyroid hormones are also a major cause of bald headedness.
What can women do to prevent the condition? This will involve reversing or managing the environmental factors that can lead to bald headedness. For example, you can reduce stress by living within your means, take on tasks that you can handle among others. Eating foods that are rich in sulfur based amino acids, vitamin D and iron will increase the growth of hair.
What other options does a woman have with an advanced bald head? Traditionally, women wore wigs to conceal a bald head. Today, there is advancement in technology that allows for hair transplant. This is a technique in which the hair is removed from the parts of the head that has hair and put into the bald headed areas. A thin base is used to insert the hair such that no one would be able to know.
