OTHER PROCEDURES
The S-Lift
The S-Lift is a good alternative to conventional, more invasive lower facelifts.
Over the past decade, the trend in facelifts has been towards more extensive operations with surgeons dissecting deeper into the muscle layers. However, although these facelift techniques carry more risk to the patient and involve more trauma, they have never been proven to give better results. Many surgeons are now beginning to realise that these more radical procedures are not necessary. It may well be that less is more.
Lifting the lid on upper eyelid surgery.
When people start telling you that you look tired - even when you aren't - there's a fair chance it's your eyes. Droopy upper lids, or bags under the eyes, are often the first signs of ageing.
Blepharoplasty (cosmetic eyelid surgery) is one of the most commonly performed cosmetic surgery procedures and can make a striking difference to a person's appearance when performed on the right patient.
Skin Resurfacing
Laser resurfacing has become a valuable tool for rejuvenating aged and sun damaged skin. The new erbium: YAG laser has a healing time measured in days, not weeks or months as in the case of the old CO2, and there is little chance of pigmentation loss.
Bags under the eyes
Fat is the main culprit of the appearance of 'bags' under the eyes. This fat has nothing to do with being over weight. It is normal fat which has changed its position. In youth the fat is underneath the eyeball, inside the skull. As we age our eyeballs sink downwards and backwards a little. This squeezes the fat out forwards, causing swelling under the skin. Only a few patients have a true excess of fat, and their bags are noticeable when they are young adults. The rest of us with bags have fat which has been squeezed into the ~ more noticeable position. Bags can also have a skin component with wrinkles or loose skin overlying the fat.
Changing Shape With liposuction
Liposuction, sometimes known as Liposuction is indeed a way of sculpting the body to change its shape. Liposuction was invented by the Italian cosmetic surgeon, Dr Giorgio Fischer and further developed by American dermatologist. Dr Jeffrey Klein.
It is not a substitute for losing weight, rather a means of getting rid of localised fat that doesn't respond to exercise or diet.
Facelifts
In the past 10 years or so, the facelift has undergone many changes and now the term covers a variety of procedures. Surgeons categories facelifts according to the area of the face they are to address. A lower third and neck lift tightens the neck, redefines the jaw line and improves sagging jowls. A mid facelift addresses sagging in the upper cheeks. Brow lifts raise the level of the eyebrows and improve wrinkling in the forehead. There are also mini-lifts and necks only lifts which are more superficial and are often performed on younger patients and combined with facial liposuction.
